It was a short bus trip from city centre and close to The Botanical Gardens

I was unable to pay by bank card. The front door key didn't always work, you had to fiddle with it. The shower leaked, the tv wasn't working the first night,it was fixed next day but, workman left a mess, which didn't get cleaned up. The room needed a good clean. We had to ask for clean towels as we had to use old ones to stem the flow of water from the leaking shower. The breakfast was probabley ok fror the money we paid but, the smell from the frying made us feel sick. They cook it in the dining room, just a kind of partition half wall. It was a pity the hotel was so tired and in need of cleaning and decorating as we had a spacious room that could have been so nice and could be earning them lots of money.

Nice and simple hotel, for the money paid it provided the basic needs and breakfast was included. The room was very spacious and clean and provided adequate facilities for a good night rest.

Location was a bit obscure and hard to find at first. Parking was difficult to find also, however staff assisted in locating suitable parking upon reaching hotel.

Did not like it at all

Hotel had a horrible smell about it bed was lumpy and uncomfortable room was cold and breakfast was very poor

Rooms massively dusty- looked as though they had not been cleaned in ages, towels all ripped and shower filthy. Towel rail fell off the wall with the weight of the towel. When awaiting breakfast, they were taking one order, cooking it, then taking the next order. Told to wait. Waited about 35minutes to be served then told I should've come up to servery and placed an order. Requested scrambled eggs on toast. Got a dinner plate with a scraping of eggs and told to wait on the toast because.... the microwave was broken!!!

the location of the hotel is fantastic for visiting the west end. Very close to all the pubs and shops

The rooms wasnt the best. Damp on the walls, insects in the lights and the bathroom was abit poor too.

very cheap and i needed cheap accommodation as i had gone to visit daughter who is studying at uni there and lives in halls of residence big room but no heating so could have been cold

the telly did not really work and there was no remote and it was a tiny telly for the size of the room also my room was not cleaned or checked or towels changed in the two days also no refill of milk tea etc. Only saw someone when i arrived never saw anybody again

Room was huge and location ideal. Staff were very pleasant

Advertised parking and wireless internet which was not the case. Bathroom was not very clean looking and shower was hopeless.

The room was very comfortable and clean and I would recommended it again at this price.

Except that we had a very uncomfortable night due to a leak in the ceiling which kept us awake all night due to the speed and noise of the leak...we tried to find a member of staff to complain to, but no one was available, even in the morning. It did spoil our whole experience and we did call the hotel to complain but we did not receive any compensation.

Clean sheets, my own bathroom, privacy and a quiet environment.

The room was a little on the small side and slightly out of the way of the city, but that is probably why it was cheaper.

Staff welcoming. Breakfast OK. Privacy respected.

Separate shared toilet with no plug for sink, no plug for bath & an almost unusable shower with erratic temperatures. Please repair!

Traditional Victorian building with well-proprtioned rooms and high ceilings; nice ambience! Room was clean and tidy. Appreciate en-suite facilities at price paid. Excellent value. Would use again.

Difficult to park car - staff gave incorrect information about parking restrictions. You need to set satnav to Alfred Lane or Cecil Street. Park in Cecil Street opposite the turning to Alfred Lane (a dead-end road, too narrow to park a car). Be careful you don't park on the 'resident permits only' part of the street. Thus done, walk back to Alfred Lane and you'll see three metal spikes. These mark the pedestrian access to Alfred Terrace - follow along to hotel! The parking restriction is from 08.45 to 17.45 Monday to Fridays and between these times, you'll need to pay 30p per hour (maximum stay 4 hours). This is a bargain, but beware, the meter stamps your ticket from the moment it is issued, even if this was outside the restricted period. Pay £1.20 for 4 hours' parking at 2200hrs and you end up with a ticket showing 0200, not 12.45 as you might expect. The staff are unaware of the problem and give incorrect advice! Noise from traffic is intrusive (no double-glazing).The t.v. is fit for the rubbish bin and only offers 5 channels. During my stay, there was an horrendeous noise, sounding like a pneumatic drill at 4.30 a.m., so no more sleep ! The breakfast is poor - reconstituted scrambled eggs (rather than fresh) and no fruit (not even tinned) to finish with. At least the plates were clean and of course its better than nothing! You could do far worse!

Nice and simple, for the price absolutely OK. Large room, large bathrooom, everything worked (shower, heating), relatively quiet room. Friendly staff. Breakfast good, except for the coffee.

Really small, hardly working TV set with only two or three programes. Only instant coffee for breakfast. Could be a little bit cleaner alltogether.

Situation suited me and it was cheap.

No shower. In the wardrobe there were used takeaway boxes. Outside the windo man cigarette ends. The balcony could do with a clean. The room was very clean though, as was the hotel and bathroom.

  • Older travelers

Newish, good quality furniture, hotel in just the location we wanted. Spacious and quiet room.

Being greeted with request for payment up front. No information about hotel services, prices, breakfast menu or times. Poor quality tv: only 4 channels, reception poor. Very uncomfortable mattress. Poor standard of decorative repair e.g. torn carpet, poor finishes. Cleaning ok in room, but mould & bacterial buildup in bathroom, no toothmug, Only bathroom complimentaries were a used bar of soap. Breakfast a comedy of errors: poor choice, sparse and cheap ingredients, orders taken & forgotten, badly cooked. Toast burned & scraped before serving! Little or no staff presence - one staff member seen occasionally. As in hospitality trade myself, I'd be very surprised if this was three stars. I would stretch to give it two...

  • Older travelers

You get what you pay for with this hotel. Fine if all you want is a bed after a night on the town. Room was spacious, bed was nice and comfy and city centre a short bus ride away but I'm afraid these are the only good points about this hotel.

Breakfast was terrrible, stoney cold and no hot water for tea or coffee. Rooms were quite dirty, bathroom particularly unpleasant. I am a frequent traveller and have never felt the need to write a review before but, and I feel awful saying this as the staff seemed friendly enough, this was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in!
